#29: Donations of Treats/Food/Supplies!

#29: Donations of Treats/Food/Supplies!

Old Mother Hubbard isn’t the only one whose cupboard was bare. HAWS’ team can face shortages of key supplies – and always, of course, at the most inopportune times.

Monetary support is critical, but sometimes in-kind donations make the biggest impact!

We try to plan ahead. Spring is usually “kitten season” so we do our best to have plenty of formula, food and litter on hand. Our Behavior team and volunteers regularly stuff Kong toys to provide enrichment, but sometimes end up using the last jar of peanut butter or chewy treats. And that senior pet that arrives needing canned food? Hopefully we always have enough on hand to keep them properly fed.

It is such a relief, though, when a member of our community (especially a recent, young Birthday Boy or Girl!) comes into the shelter with a cart load OR carload of goodies from our Wish Lists. When we can spend less on basic supplies, we can spend more on care and treatment of the animals who need us.

We are extremely grateful for those who, while at the store, and pick up a few extra items for the paws and claws and humans at HAWS. “Thank you” doesn’t seem like enough, but please know when we say thank you at the front counter, you helped make a lot of days, a lot better!
